Making a DIY piggy bank is a great way to do arts and crafts with the family while also motivating yourself to start saving. Here are some easy methods from us here at Riverhead Nissan.
Cereal Box Robot
Here’s a great way to recycle those leftover cereal boxes! If you don’t want to go with the traditional pig design, you can take advantage of the square angles of the cereal box to use construction paper and decorate it like a robot. Then all you have to do is cut a hole in the top for putting coins through.
Mason Jar Pig
Get ready, Pinterest lovers, there’s finally a reason to use all those mason jars you’ve accumulated. All it requires is a bit of felt, glue, and a fuzzy pipe cleaner for the springy pig’s tail. Turn your jar on its side and use it like the “body” of the pig, then decorate it to look like a little piggy.
This one takes a bit of work, but the end result is worth it – just be careful not to actually try and drink it. Using a leftover Starbucks cup, some craft clay, and bit of paint (to color the clay), mold the clay around your cup and give it the appearance of whipped cream and chocolate syrup under the domed top. Then, just cup a hole for your coins!
Try to get creative with your DIY piggy bank! These certainly aren’t all the ideas out there, especially for Summer with your family. Either way, making your own piggy bank is an awesome way to get yourself excited to use it.
